Fort McMurray Mountie charged with bribery and breach of trust

The RCMP have charged a member of its Wood Buffalo Detachment with two criminal offences related to the allegation that he accepted money in exchange for information contained within a police database, which was then provided to an unauthorized source.

Constable Kyle Gordon Harrison, of the Wood Buffalo RCMP is charged with:

One count: section 120(a) Criminal Code – Bribery of Officers

One count: section 122 Criminal Code – Breach of Trust by Public Officer

“When a member of the RCMP is charged with a criminal offence we are very very concerned for a number of reasons. The primary one being the impact upon the community, and what their feelings are about trust and support for the police, and that’s something that we don’t wish to erode under any circumstances,” said Inspector Kevin Gibson, Officer in Charge, RCMP K Division.

“We would want the public to know that wehn these things do happen that these investigations are thorougly looked after and brought to trial as quickly as possible,” added Gibson.

Constable Harrison has seven years service with the RCMP and was arrested at Fort McMurray on Mar. 25, 2015.

The RCMP say Harrison hasn’t had any previous incidents.

He’s been released with conditions to appear in Fort McMurray Provincial Court on May. 20, 2015 at 1:30 p.m.

The charges were formally sworn at Fort McMurray today (March 30th, 2015) and he has been suspended with pay.
