The NDP may already be a step ahead as Albertans walk into polling stations. An online Insights West survey says the party is in the lead. Forty-two per cent of decided voters say the NDP is their pick.

The poll says the Wildrose is in second place with 27 per cent support and the PCs in third at 23 per cent. Similar results were found with Mainstreet Technologies.

Yesterday, Wildrose Party Leader Brian Jean spoke about “accidentally” electing an NDP majority. At a campaign stop in Calgary, Jean told reporters only the Wildrose can prevent NDP Leader Rachel Notley from winning the election.

He said if Albertans split the vote between Wildrose and the PCs, they’ll end up with an NDP government. Jean expects the New Democrats to sweep Edmonton and suggests it is up to Calgary and rural Alberta to stop an NDP majority.

The poll was conducted between May 1 – 4 and included about 1,000 Albertans.
