A new space in Westview Public School’s library will honour the heritage and traditions of the Aboriginal, First Nations and Inuit peoples.

Students and staff opened the Aboriginal Corner in the Lorraine Jackson library today.

“There were three staff members who attended the opening of the Total Aboriginal Corner at the Fort McMurray public library and we were inspired by that,” said Merrie-Rae Mitsopoulos, Principal Westview Public School. “I think it shows us honouring their heritage their culture and their traditions.”

Mitsopoulos hopes that it will also help students with an international background learn about first nations cultures in Canada.

The corner features both fiction and non-fiction books with an aboriginal focus.
