Hair Massacure needs volunteers for leadership roles

If you’re looking for a volunteer opportunity that involves more than just a one-time commitment then the Hair Massacure event for Make A Wish Northern Alberta and the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation might be for you.

The popular head-shaving party fundraiser is returning to Fort McMurray on March 2, 2016 at the Peter Pond Mall. Volunteers will be needed for the day of the fundraiser, including local entertainment and local salons willing to help with the head-shaving part of the festivities.

People interested in shaving their heads and raising money can sign up right up to the day of the fundraiser and often school groups and teams will register together.

Before the event can take place, however, the fundraiser needs some leadership.

“We’re hoping it will be a very volunteer-driven event and we’ll just support them from the staff perspective,” said Amanda Race, the Project Coordinator for Hair Massacure Northern Alberta.

“It’s nice when it’s local people who know the community and they know more about all the people so it’s great to see them being able to put their talents to use,” she said.

They’re looking for people who have some time to fill leadership positions and organize the event, including filling the roles of Committee Chair, Participant Recruitment, Logistic, Media and Communications, Food and Beverage, Entertainment and more.

If you’re interested in getting involved you can check out an open house at the Wood Buffalo Public Library on Tuesday September 15th from 7-8pm to learn how you can get involved.
