Winter maintenance zones start next week

Winter maintenance zones come into effect starting next Thursday. The zones are the rolling “no-parking” days the RMWB is using to control snow cleanup in Fort McMurray.

Each neighbourhood has a different day where on-street parking is banned from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and signs have been installed in each neighbourhood indicating which day of the week the ban occurs on.

The rolling bans will allow municipal road crews to clear streets on a consistent day of the week and the municipality said it hopes it will mean a more efficient clean-up after a major snowfall.

Even though there hasn’t been a snowfall yet the Winter Maintenance Zones come into effect October 15 to allow crews to prepare for the coming winter. They will remain in effect until April 15, 2016.

To find your zone look to the RMWB website which will also have information about the program and regular updates.

Residents are responsible for complying with parking regulation as set out in the Roads and Transportation Bylaw No. 02/079. Vehicles parked in an active Winter Maintenance Zone could be ticketed or towed by an independent third party company to an impound lot located by the Water Treatment Plant off Silin Forest Road located on the west side of the Athabasca Bridge.

The RWMB is reminding all residents that parking tickets and towing fees are the responsibility of the vehicle owner.
