Highway 63 twinning is 99 per cent complete

Twinning on Highway 63 is now 99 per cent complete.

A newly twinned 16 kilometre section between Grassland and Fort McMurray opened yesterday afternoon between markers 129 and 145.

“The Highway 63 project is critical to the safety of motorists and to Alberta’s economy. Our contractors have been working hard to complete this project that is so important to Fort McMurray,” said Brian Mason, Minister of Transportation. “This year we have opened 185 kilometres, with 68 kilometres opening ahead of schedule. Combined with sections of the highway opened in previous years, we now have 237 kilometres open to traffic.”

Warm weather late into the fall season has allowed contractors to gain ground on completing the twinning process. Crews will work to complete the project ahead of schedule for as long as weather permits. Last week another 53 kilometres of four lane highway was opened.
