During Lung Cancer Awareness Month, a former teacher at Father Mercredi High School who is battling the illness is working to change the face of it and to teach people that anyone who has lungs can get lung cancer.

Elizabeth Dessureault was diagnosed five months ago with lung cancer when at just 26-years-old and pregnant with her first child.

“As a healthy, 26 year old non-smoker, this news came as a complete shock,” she writes on her website, From Lizzie’s Lungs.

Since then, she has moved home to Cornwall to get treatment and is now selling Canadian bracelets and giving motivational talks in efforts to raise awareness about lung cancer.

Dessureault is using her website to keep friends, family and supporters updated on her journey and you can follow along as well. You can also find a link to donate in support of her personal battle with cancer.
