Santa Claus comes to Fort McMurray Saturday

Santa Claus is coming to town Saturday as part of a day filled with festive activities designed to help everyone in Wood Buffalo get in the holiday spirit.

Presented by Country 93.3, the Santa Claus Parade starts at 6:30 p.m., and the Lights of Christmas start in Jubilee Plaza at 5 p.m. Residents are also invited to visit the Elves’ Workshop, hosted by the Wood Buffalo Regional Library at MacDonald Island Park from 12:00 to 4:30 p.m.

“There will be lots of different elements to the parade, lots of great themes, and there are some people that have incorporated some pretty amazing stuff into their floats so I think it’s going to be a great parade. There are a lot of floats registered this year. It’s going to be a good one,” said parade coordinator Megan Stringer with the RMWB.

Every year, the local volunteer community has been helping the Santa Claus Parade festivities to be a success. This year a record number have signed up to volunteer.

To make way for Santa’s sleigh and reindeer, motorists are reminded of the following road closures:

  • Prairie Loop Blvd. – Closed for float staging and de-staging from noon to 9 p.m.
  • Franklin Ave. – Parade route closed from 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Riedel St. – Parade route closed from 6:15 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Note: Road closure times are approximate. As the parade passes, roads will reopen.
