Funds still needed for Santas Anonymous

The annual Miracle Marathon in support of Santas Anonymous was a great success over the weekend.

An incredible $35,000 was raised to support the Christmas hampers program run by the students and some staff at Father Mercredi High School along with food donations and toys that will be given to children in the 700 families referred for assistance this year. In 2015 $22,000 was raised in the drive.

Still, more funds must be raised to pay for all of the groceries needed to meet the growing need. Organizers said Monday they are about $10,000 short of what is needed to cover their costs.

You can donate online until the end of the day Thursday, December 17.

In 2015 there were 565 referrals and this year there were more than 700. That growing need is a reflection of the downturn and the changing circumstances felt by many in the community.

Organizers for Santas Anonymous said there is also a need for volunteer drivers for the delivery day, Friday, December 18.

If you are interested in being a driver you can call Jo-Ann at 780-799-5725.
