The Northern Lights Health Foundation has received an early Christmas present from the Royal Canadian Legion Fort McMurray Branch 165.

The Legion is donating $15,000 to help fund two new pieces of equipment at the hospital.

The funds will support the purchase of a second ears, nose and throat chair for the Emergency Department, and a counter top ice and water dispenser for the Community Cancer Clinic.

“The Health Foundation is thrilled to receive this generous contribution from the Royal Canadian Legion!” said Susanne Chaffey, Executive Director of the Health Foundation. “This gift will have a tremendous impact on patients, through funding essential new equipment and ultimately providing a more comfortable environment to receive treatment in.”

“We at Branch 165 want to show our support and appreciation of the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre and its dedicated staff, who do their utmost to ensure residents receive top quality care,” says Patrick Duggan, President of the Royal Canadian Legion Fort McMurray Branch 165. “Both items purchases were chosen not only to help our Emergency Department but also those departments who support those receiving longer term care.”

The ENT chair will be used by patients when receiving a variety of treatments to eye, ear, nose and throat injuries as well as when they have blood drawn, medications administered intravenously and during physician consultations. The chair will be the second of its kind in the Emergency wing after one was funded and purchased by the  Health Foundation in 2013.

The counter top ice and water dispenser will help patients receiving chemotherapy who experience dry mouth when receiving treatment. Current nursing staff are forced to  to travel to other areas of the hospital several times a day as there is no working water or ice machine in the Clinic.
