A partnership between Suncor, the Fort McMurray 468 First Nation and Christina River Enterprises is proving to be a fruitful one for the First Nation of about 700 people located south of McMurray.

A new Petro-Canada branded gas and service station was opened in October after being completely remodeled from a modest, unbranded gas bar. The new facility features a 3,000 square foot store, six fueling lanes and above-ground tanks.

“It’s looking good right now, it’s doing good and we’re really proud of what we have. We have a lot of partners, and this one is working really good,” said Chief Ron Kreutzer.

The new building cost about $3.2 million and revenues have exceeded projections by 20 per cent according to the band.

“Revenues have exceeded all of our expectations at this point and that’s a great thing in the economy that we have today,” mentioned CEO Brad Callihoo.

It’s the first aboriginally-owned Petro-Canada in Alberta and the 19th in Canada.
