There were encouraging words from Justin Trudeau Tuesday, as he wrapped up his Liberal cabinet retreat in Kananaskis.

The Prime Minister said Ottawa was “entirely focused” on helping Canadians, particularly those struggling from the oil slump in Alberta.

However, he didn’t divulge any specific plans.

Trudeau acknowledged one of the government’s fundamental responsibilities is to get our product to market.

“But the way to do that in the 21st century is to make sure that it’s done responsibly, sustainably, in partnership with Indigenous Canadians and with communities affected by various projects,” he said.

There’s no word on whether Trudeau will budge on the Northern Gateway pipeline, even with an amended route.

“What I will say is the Great Bear Rainforest is no place for a pipeline,” he stressed once again.

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley has said there may be a new way to make the project happen, if the pipeline ends somewhere that’s not Kitimat, B.C.
