Dutch government campaigns for safe drone flying

THE HAGUE, Netherlands – The Dutch government is launching a campaign on safe drone flying after a string of reports of pilots spotting the machines near the country’s busiest airport.

Infrastructure and Environment Minister Sharon Dijksma said Wednesday that owners must be aware of where and how they are allowed to use drones, which are banned near the country’s airports.

Dijksma says the “safety of manned aviation is the priority.”

The Netherlands is not the only country concerned about drones near airports. Last month, the European Aviation Safety Agency said it is setting up a task force to examine the risk of collisions between drones and aircraft.

EASA says the panel will analyze studies on drone-plane impacts, study the vulnerabilities of aircraft and consider the possibility of further research.
