Ten wildfires extinguished in Fort McMurray region

Five wildfires in the Fort McMurray area are under investigation as wildland firefighters have extinguished 10 fires since late last week.

Alberta Agriculture and Forestry notes that there are 11 active wildfires in the region, three are being held including ‘The Beast’, five are under control and three are out of control.

“Currently these fires are not threatening any communities,” stated the Ministry in a web update at 8 p.m. Sunday. “At this time five are under investigation and [seven] have been caused by lightning.”

The Horse River wildfire is remains at an estimated size of 589,617 hectares in size, including the portion within Saskatchewan.

The Wildfire Hazard in the Fort McMurray Forest Area is currently moderate.
