RMWB updates routes and schedule for Municipal Transit Service

Changes to the Municipal Transit Service are in effect as of Monday.

New routes and schedules can be found online, previously printed schedules will not reflect the new routes.

“The plan to update routes and scheduling isn’t a new one,” said Robert Kirby, Director of Transit Services, in a press release. “We began engaging residents last year and continued this year to get their feedback. The changes you’ll see with the system are based on residents’ feedback to create more efficient routes and schedules with improved conditions.”

Some highlights include:

  • Express service to the Fort McMurray International Airport every thirty minutes from 5 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., seven days a week from the Main-and-Franklin terminal.
  • New transit routes connecting Timberlea (Route 15 – formerly Route 101) and Thickwood (Route 16 – formerly Route 102) via clockwise and counter-clockwise loops with key stops along the way. Both routes begin and end at the Main-and-Franklin terminal and will run the same hours as the Airport Express.
  • The Airport Express will now connect with Routes 15 and 16 to take residents to and from Thickwood and Timberlea with a single transfer.
  • Some community routes will be offered hourly, with service for some routes ending by 11 p.m.
  • Most route numbers have been kept the same for consistency.

You can contact the Transit Services department at (780) 747-2044 ext. 104, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or email at transit@rmwb.ca.

Updated school routes will be rolled out in September.
