Thanks to some much needed rain and cooler temperatures the wildfire hazard in most of the Fort McMurray Forest Area has been reduced to low.

The northeast portion of the area is still warm and dry, thus the hazard is still moderate to high.

There are currently four active wildfires, two are being held and two are under control. Three of them are still under investigation while the fourth was caused by lightning.

The Horse River Wildfire is still classified as being held as of Jun. 13, it’s an estimated 589,617 hectares in size, including the portion across the border with Saskatchewan.
