Sixty-five days after it first started ‘The Beast’ is now under control according to Alberta Agriculture and Forestry.

The Ministry noted Monday that the wildfire is completely contained and will be fully extinguished.

It is still an estimated 589,552 hectares in size, including the portion within Saskatchewan.

Thanks to heavy rain in the region the wildfire hazard for the Fort McMurray Forest Area is low.

There are four active wildfires in the region, one is being held while three are under control including the Horse River Fire.
