The Fort McMurray Public School District (FMPSD) is going to be receiving some new classroom technology thanks to Samsung Canada.

In a press release today Samsung Canada announced its support for the Fort McMurray relief efforts as we begin to re-build our community. This new commitment will include both a cash donation for the Canadian Red Cross, as well as Samsung classroom Technology.

“The teamwork, strength and spirit demonstrated by Fort McMurray residents since tragedy struck in May continues to be an inspiration for our entire team,” said Mark Childs, Chief Brand Officer, Samsung Canada. “As the focus turns to rebuilding this vibrant community, we look forward to working alongside the Canadian Red Cross and the Fort McMurray Public School District to help residents who need it most get back on their feet as soon as possible.”

Samsung Canada’s donation will include $100,000 in the form of a cash to the Canadian Red Cross, with an additional $140,000 in Samsung school technology for FMPSD whose educational resources were damaged by the wildfire.

“This much needed technology will go a long way in supporting our in-school STEM programming camps and our after-school technology and trade based academies. This generous gift from Samsung will help teachers continue to bring innovation into our classrooms. It’s a major step forward in our rebuild process,” said Doug Nicholls, Superintendent, Fort McMurray Public School District.

The donations come in part of Samsung Canada’s ongoing charitable efforts that include education, health and community support in Canada.
