Vigil held Sunday afternoon for Sara Baillie and Taliyah Marsman

Over 200 people showed up at a northwest park to remember Sara Baillie and Taliyah Marsman.

The Calgary mom and 5-year-old daughter were recently murdered.

The organizers of the vigil turned the event into a celebration of two lives cut short.

Tanya Kruger, who came out to show her support for the family, says “We just want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for coming out today and celebrating life.”

The rain fell as people gathered at the site, but stopped as the service got underway, completed with candles, soap bubbles, sparklers and even champagne.

Jennifer Vonavka had a message for those struggling to understand what happened.

“All we can do now is pray is that there is justice served and nobody else has to go through this, I would never wish this on my worst enemy” says Vonavka. “This is just horrific.”

Close friend Donna Palmer addressed the crowd: ” I am finding it very difficult to talk, I just want to say Sara we love you we miss you and cheers to you baby.”

Baillie’s body was found in her Calgary home about a week ago.

Three days later an amber alert, which was sounded in an effort to help locate Taliyah Marsman, was called off after her body was found on a rural property just outside the city.

The man accused of killing the two is scheduled to appear in court later in the week.
