UPDATE: As of 1:30 Friday afternoon all of the flowers had found their way to the homes of people in our community.

Hundreds of planters and hanging baskets were donated to our community to help brighten it up as we begin to rebuild.

Michiel Verheul of High Q Greenhouses in Sturgeon County has gathered support from members of the Alberta Greenhouse Growers Association (AGGA) to donate these planters and hanging baskets to contribute to our rebuild efforts.

“The generosity of greenhouse owners is absolutely amazing,” said Diane Shannon, Executive Director, of The United Way of Fort McMurray.  “Fresh flowers add colour and a sense of renewal and hope.  We hope that residents and businesses alike take advantage of this opportunity to be the recipients of such kindness.”

Members of the AGGA also donated flowers and plants during the Slave Lake wildfire (2011) and the Calgary floods (2013.)

“We expect the total count to be well over 1000 plants, baskets and planters,” said Michiel Verheul.  “We are proud to help provide colour and life to brighten up businesses and homes during these very trying times of rebuilding.”
