The first official Wood Buffalo Recovery Committee Meeting is being held Wendesday afternoon at 4:00.

The first order of business will be to select the and the chair and vice chair will be elected from among the members.

The nine members of the committee are:

  • Councillor Sheldon Germain
  • Councillor Keith McGrath
  • Councillor Allan Vinni
  • Jeanette Bancarz
  • Maggie Farrington
  • Kevin Fleury

There are no rules requiring that a chair or vice chair be an elected representative, only that they be chosen from among the members of the committee.

Once the leadership structure of the committee has been decided the WBRC will appoint an interim Recovery Team Leader.

The chief role of the WBRC is to handle the governance side of recovery while the Task Force handles the operations side. Staffing, moving municipal employees to the task force, and appointments will be done in the near future.

Also on the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting is an update from the Regional Emergency Operations Centre on the current recovery efforts. Members of the committee hinted at Tuesday night’s council meeting the update may include a timeline for re-entry for the green homes in Abasand, Beacon Hill, and Waterways.
