Sustainival is coming back to Fort McMurray this Labour Day weekend.

The world’s first green carnival, which made its inaugural tour to Wood Buffalo in 2012 is back this year with its longest opening hours in history.

It has become the longest annually recurring festival in the region and will open on Thursday, Sep. 1, and run until Monday, Sep. 5.

Local non-profits will have the chance to raise funds during two events over the course of the festival.

Big Brothers Big Sisters will be selling rubber ducks for their annual Rubber Duck Race on the Thursday and Friday of the festival, while the Wood Buffalo Food Bank will have a donation tent set up on the Saturday and Sunday.

Friday will feature a free community BBQ presented by Suncor, the first 2,000 attendees will get free food and get to take in musical performances.

Honomobo, an Alberta-based shipping container home manufacturer will be on site to display its services to the region as Fort McMurray rebuilds.

The event is hosted in the parking lot of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre at MacDonald Island Park.
