Taxation, transitional housing on WBRC agenda Wednesday night

The Wood Buffalo Recovery Committee meets August 17, 2016.

Wednesday night’s Wood Buffalo Recovery Committee meeting will start off with a discussion on property taxes after the committee was tasked with finding a solution for relief for those who lost their homes in the fire.

The committee will also get an update on plans to provide transitional housing and on the overall recovery efforts. The RMWB has extended services at the Abram’s Landing trailer campground to the end of October but winter services will not be available there and a more viable winter solution is needed for the hundreds of families who want to remain in the community while they wait either for access to their homes or for their homes to be rebuilt.

The community engagement sub-committee will present on the public engagement sessions and the questions they’ve been receiving from residents at those sessions. There may also be an update on the long-term schedule for the sessions which are expected to be held throughout the community to ensure all residents are able to attend and have their questions answered and concerns heard.

This week’s public engagement session is being held at the Thickwood YMCA from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.

The WBRC meeting begins at 6 p.m. in council chambers and is also broadcast live online and on Shaw TV.
