The Fort McMurray SPCA announced today that pet supplies and re-entry kits to support households with pets will stop as of September 4th.

The FMSPCA was a key asset throughout re-entry with 1,474 pet owners utilizing their re-entry kit program, where 3,398 pets received their supplies.

“Our agency has worked tirelessly to support local pet owning households throughout the evacuation and continuing through re-entry which was made possible through the incredible support and over 250 pallets of donations we received from across the country,” said Tara Clarke, Executive Director of the FMSPCA.

As part of their on-going support the FMSPCA announced on July 21st that they would be accepting owner surrenders at no cost to assist residents who were unable to keep their animals.

“Since the announcement of our no fee owner surrender program we have taken 69 animals into our care and that number continues to grow on a weekly basis,” said Clarke. “We are hopeful that any local residents looking to add a companion animal into their households will consider adopting their pet from the Fort McMurray SPCA.”

To help support the region’s only local animal shelter, the FMSPCA is hosting a Masquerade Ball fundraiser in the Shell Place Grand Ballroom on Saturday, October 29th, 2016 to raise essential funding for the shelter.
