Attendance at Waterways engagement session crucial for residents

A presentation on interim housing with Recovery Branch Lead Erin O'Neill under way as part of a public engagement session at Shell Place on Sept. 1, 2016.

The RMWB has signalled that attendance at Thursday evening’s public engagement session on rebuilding in Waterways is crucial for residents who want to help shape the decisions that are made for the future of that community.

The session takes place from 4-8 p.m. at Shell Place with two identical presentations followed by Q&A sessions at 4:30 and 6 p.m.

If you cannot attend the session in person you will be able to follow by live-stream and ask questions that will be answered by the presenters through the Facebook Live feature on the RMWB Facebook Page.

The presentation will also be available afterward on Facebook and by Friday morning on the RMWB YouTube Page.

While the exact details of the presentations are not yet available the RMWB has stressed that those attending will be able to help decide future steps for redevelopment in Waterways.

Sarah Murrant, stakeholder relations with the RMWB, said at last week’s engagement session they received a great deal of questions about the community.

“We had many residents ask us about Waterways, if there was a decision, what that might look like and when we would know,” she said.

There were also questions about what to do if you are uninsured or under-insured and about difficulty navigating the rebuild process. Those questions are prompting further, more focused engagement sessions including one planned for September 15 on how to navigate the rebuild and permit application process.

The interim Recovery Team lead, Dana Woodworth, signalled this engagement session is one residents interested in the plan for Waterways will not want to miss.

“The Waterways meeting tomorrow night is extremely important. Every stakeholder engagement is, but some time ago I mentioned the complexity of Waterways,” he said. “It is truly a number of variables that are all inter-meshed and the voice of the residents of Waterways, and of this community, need to be heard by the committee, by the Task Force, so we look forward to that opportunity tomorrow night.”

He encouraged all who could attend to be at the public engagement session.

Saprae Creek Session

There is a separate public engagement session taking place at Vista Ridge in Saprae Creek with both general recovery information and with specific information about Fire Smart work that will be done in the area.

There will be provincial representatives there to speak about the Fire Smart work along with drawings indicating the plans for tree removal with the expectation public feedback will shape the final plans.

That session takes place from 6-8 p.m. at Vista Ridge.
