Celebration of Life planned for Friday for Geraldine Carbery

Members of the public are invited to a celebration of life this Friday evening to honour Geraldine Carbery, the 27-year Catholic School District trustee who passed away in August at the age of 73.

Carbery was an incredibly dedicated member of the community who, in addition to her time spent working in the schools, volunteered for 42 years with the Girl Guides and her whole life with the church and in the communities of Fort McMurray and Fort Chipewyan.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim, who also served as a board trustee and as a member of council, and by her sons Sean (Jill), Fergus (Kelly), daughter Sarita (Ed), treasured grandchildren Shane (Mel), Aaron, Sarah, grandson Chase, granddaughter Lily, and step-grandchildren Conner, Luke, Morgan and Logan.

At the time of her passing, Carbery’s daughter Sarita told MyMcMurray the family wanted to wait to hold the celebration of life until the return of students because of her mother’s dedication to the school community.

The celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic High School.
