The Northern Lights Regional Health Centre receives a $31,500 donation

Donors and dignitaries with the foundation exchange a cheque for $31,535

The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) has gifted $31,535 in support of healthcare in our region.

$22,750 of the funds will support the purchase of a bronchoscope for the Respiratory Therapy Department of the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre (NLRHC.)

“A bronchoscope is a device that can be inserted to your lungs and you can look inside to see what is going and so the doctor can determine what kind of treatment that patient needs. The device will also allow doctors to obtain samples from the lungs for diagnostic purposes as well, it means we can know the patients progress and how the patient reacts with medication and treatment they’re on,” said Lee Junlajeam, a respiratory therapist at NLRHC and Clinical Lead for Respiratory Department.

CIM chose to purchase a bronchoscope because it was something the hospital needed AND it will directly support people affected by the fire because it can be used to help diagnose both smoke and particle inhalation and related illnesses.

“We extend a heartfelt thanks to the CIM for their generous and ongoing support of health care in our region. Their support towards the health and wellness of our community is outstanding,” said Cindy Amerongen, Executive Director of the Health Foundation. “As our community heals from the trauma of the recent wildfires, our residents need quality care they can count on, right here at home. CIM’s gift towards a bronchoscope for Respiratory Therapy will make a tremendous difference in the lives of patients needing care for their lungs post-wildfire.”

The extra $9,000 will go toward the hospitals Gratitude Campaign.

CIM is also donating $31,000 to the Food Bank, $28,000 to the Red Cross, $10,000 to a local mental health organization and $10,000 to Habitat for Humanity Wood Buffalo.
