The first Empty Bowls Festival was a huge success.

The event was held in support of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank (WBFB) and in partnership with the Fort McMurray Potter’s Guild, raising over $14,000.

Festival goer’s purchased locally hand-crafted bowls from the Fort McMurray Potter’s Guild and make their way around the event, sampling creations from nine food stations hosted by local eateries.

“The first annual Empty Bowls Festival was successful beyond our wildest dreams,” says Arianna Johnson, Executive Director of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank. “When we returned to the region May 27, 2016 we had to make some hard choices about events and fundraisers that might need to be cut, but we all agreed this show must go on.”

Admission bowls sold out within the first two hours of the event.

In hopes to raise more funds for the WBFB, local artists with the Arts Council Wood Buffalo, were present to showcase and sell their work with a portion of sales being donated back to the Wood Buffalo Food Bank.

As well, there were displays and demonstrations of live arts and fine crafts, 19 celebrity bowls were created for a silent auction, along with many items submitted by the Wood Buffalo Photography Club.
