Volunteers needed

The municipality is seeking volunteers to help with the Point in Time homeless count taking place on Wednesday Oct. 19, from 7 – 11 p.m.

This event, which happens every two years, gives a snapshot of the number of individuals without permanent housing on a particular day. The data collected allows Wood Buffalo to examine how the homeless population changes over time, to evaluate the programs success and track progress on Wood Buffalo’s 10 year plan to end Homelessness.

Volunteers will walk in pairs on a set route and survey individuals along those routes. Volunteers will be provided with maps and survey sheets to record basic demographic information.

In 2014, 294 individuals identified themselves homeless. The Municipality has been conducting homelessness surveys since 2006.
