2018 Alberta Winter Games General Manager announced

After a lengthy candidate process, the Board of Directors of the 2018 Alberta Winter Games are pleased to announce the hiring of Michelle Toner as the General Manager for the upcoming Wood Buffalo Games to be held in February 2018.

Michelle Toner who was named the General Manager comes to the games with a wealth of knowledge and sport experience in Fort McMurray.

During her time at Keyano, Michelle worked as the Tournament Chair of the 2016 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship, Co-Chair for the 2015 ACAC Men’s Soccer, 2015 ACAC Men’s Basketball, 2014 ACAC Futsal, 2014 Cross Country Running and 2009 Men’s Volleyball National Championship.

“This marks an important milestone as we prepare our community to host these provincial-level games. We believe that she is the right candidate for the job and her experience in promoting and developing sport in our region makes her exceptionally qualified for the position.” said Amanda Mercer, Co-Chair for the 2018 Alberta Winter Games Host Society

The 2018 Alberta Winter Games will be held in February 2018 in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo after successfully winning a bid to host in early 2016.

“It was clear in the hiring process that Michelle is a passionate and dedicated sport administration professional, committed to the growth and development of sport in Wood Buffalo, and we have full confidence that she will use her local experience as an event manager to recruit, mentor and lead a collaborative and engaged team to success in February 2018.” said Mohamed Salem who is also a Co-Chair for the 2018 Alberta Winter Games Host Society

Over 2,500 athletes aged 11-17 years old will compete in the province-wide winter sports competition with hundreds of family members and spectators expected to attend the games.
