The Wood Buffalo Regional Library (WBRL) was awarded on of four Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Library Service.

WBRL was awarded this award for their Total Aboriginal Cultural Corner, the corner is devoted to Aboriginal cultures and collections.

The corner houses their growing First Nation, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) collection, and has been designated with an in-house designed label.

“The Library was very honored to have received a Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Library Service,” says WBRL Acting Director, Melissa Flett. “The Total Aboriginal Cultural Corner showcases the Aboriginal community of our region for all ages. The space, the collection and the programming we offer would not be possible without the support of our sponsors Total E&P Canada Ltd. and the Bouchier Group; and our partners the Métis Local 1935 and the Northeastern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association. I would encourage all residents to visit our award winning Corner and learn something new about the community we call home.”

A Minister’s Award for excellence in Public Library Service is designated to libraries that house innovative programs, services or technologies as centres of excellence, and package and share their knowledge expertise.

Danielle Larivee, Minister of Municipal Affairs originally awarded this award to the WBRL on May 2nd.
