If you are a dedicated, outgoing and caring member of our community, you can now sign up to volunteer to shovel local seniors’ driveways and sidewalks through the Snow Angels Program.

“So far this year we’ve had 56 homes sign up for the program and we’re expecting that number to grow,” said Caitlyn Evans, Program Coordinator. “Snow removal is a stress identified by most seniors as a seasonal challenge, and this in addition to the impact of the fire increases the need for volunteers to support them by providing this service.”

The Snow Angels Program applies to all seniors 65 and older with priority given to the seniors with less social support and resources, and there is no need to bring your own shovel, as shovels and ice scrapers are donated by the RMWB and delivered by their staff.

The Snow Angels Program which began in 2009, began with students from Dr. K.A. Clark School and Fort McMurray Composite High School clearing sidewalks and driveways of seniors in the downtown core.

Since then, the program has expanded to the entire urban area of Fort McMurray.

Families, businesses and adults are also encouraged to volunteer.
