United Way's Community Campaign at 70 per cent of their goal

The United Way’s Community Campaign is sitting around $5.6 million or 70 per cent of their goal.

These additional donations comes after three major campaigns announced their totals over the past weeks.

Syncrude was the first to share their fundraising total of $2,220,293 on October 20th, Suncor revealed their total of $2,000,022, and Shell Albian Sand announced a fundraising total of $746,620.

“Congratulations to Syncrude, Suncor and Shell for running stellar campaigns,” said Colin Hartigan, 2016 Community Campaign Chair. “They worked so hard to share the United Way message through all areas of their companies. We are so grateful to each and every person who stepped up and supported the campaign whether financially or through participation in the campaign.”

With the wildfire and current economic situation, the needs of our community are expected to be bigger. The Community Campaign is to replenish the United Way’s community fund and ensure that help is there when people need it.

“There is so much to celebrate,” said Diane Shannon, Executive Director. “We are over two-thirds of the way to our goal, despite everything that this community has been through in the last year. This goal was less of a financial target and more of an acknowledgement of the level of need in our community. Considering the economy and the fact that we are recovering from one of the largest natural disasters in Canadian history, the level of generosity we continue to see is astounding.”

The United Way is hoping to raise $8 million by November 18th, but will continue to accept donations until the end of the year.
