The Fort McMurray Phoenix were unable to secure any wins in falling to 1-5 so far this season.

In game one, Fort McMurray was defeated 13-5 by St Albert while game two was a lot closer but the Phoenix fell 8-5 to Spruce Grove.

The schedule for the Phoenix for session two will not be finalized until later Tuesday night and can be found at Black and Gold Ringette.

Coming into game one, Fort McMurray found themselves winless so far this season as they took on the now (6-0) St.Albert team. St.Albert came out on fire and carried their momentum throughout the game peppering Fort McMurray’s goalie totaling 44 shots en route to a 9-3 loss for Fort McMurray.

In game two, Spruce Grove did the same as St.Albert did one night prior but added 13 shots in beating Fort McMurray 10-1 while racking up 56 shots.

Laney Pasemko and Cameron Burke gave it their best and played very well all weekend long in net for Fort McMurray while Paige Brake grabbed first star honours on Saturday and Rhiann Semeniuk grabbed the honours on Sunday.

Heading into this past weekend, the Fort McMurray Fusion were undefeated sitting at 4-0.

The Fusion had a tough start in game one as the flu bug made its rounds through some members of the team. Despite this the Fusion took to the ice to take on a very good Lacombe team who was the top team in their pool.

The Fusion came out flat and found themselves chasing the score board for the whole game. Lacombe outshot the Fusion 58 – 16 which showed in the final score of 13-5 for Lacombe.

In game two on Sunday, the Fusion played Sherwood Park in the final game of session 1.

The Fusion played a better game but still came up short, losing the contest 6-4.

Controversial officiating was the theme of game two and made for some very tense final minutes of action. Sam Deitz appeared to score a goal that would have cut the deficit to one at 6-5 with two and a half minutes left but it was immediately waved off because of a crease violation.

Fusion goalie Brianna Burke was rewarded with player of the game honours. Burke faced a ton of shots all weekend and kept the Fusion in game two right up to the final buzzer.

“We are looking forward to getting back to practice and working on a few things in our game that we need to improve on as Session two begins shortly” said Fusion coaches after the game.

The u19 Fort McMurray Fusion came into last weekends action sitting at (2-1-1) and after two games, the Fusion dropped to (2-3-1) after session one of the Black and Gold League.

In game one, the Fusion stayed close with a very good (5-1) Lacombe team but came up on the short end of a 9-5 decision.

One day later, Spruce Grove jumped ahead early and never looked back in winning a very decisive 9-2 game against Fort McMurray.
