Recovery Plan now available online

You can now read the full Wildfire Recovery Plan that will be used by the RMWB, Council, and the Recovery Task Force in all planning and decision-making for restoring our community from the post-disaster state.

The plan was adopted by council and will help them when setting budgets and deciding who should be in charge of which aspects of our community’s recovery.

This plan expands on the five pillars of recovery: people, environment, economy, rebuild, and mitigation.

You can download the full 48-page report online at RMWB.ca.

There are also two other documents available for you to read that are helping guide the work of the Recovery Task Force, which is a working business unit of the Municipality, appointed by and reporting to the Recovery Team Leader.

Its mandate is to consult with and work with other business units of the Municipality, private and not-for-profit sectors, other levels of government and local community stakeholders to decide upon and execute an effective recovery plan. Its goal is to ensure that the Municipality and its residents will be well established on a path to recovery following the wildfire in the shortest time practicable.

The other available documents include: the Wildfire Recovery Plan Schedule and the Wildfire Recovery Campaign Plan.

From the RMWB:

Introduction to the Recovery Plan
The Plan is intended to guide the recovery of the entire region from a post-disaster state, coordinate rebuilding efforts using a build back better philosophy and enhance community-level resiliency. It will position Wood Buffalo for future growth following rehabilitation of the damaged areas and enable the region to support its own recovery.

Governance Structure
Leadership and accountability for the overall recovery effort rests with the municipality through the Mayor and Council. On June 23, 2016, Council passed the amended Bylaw 16/013 that established the Wood Buffalo Recovery Committee (WBRC) with the mandate to serve as the governance entity to which the Recovery Team Leader reports and is accountable. The Committee also exercises policy and governance oversight of the Wood Buffalo Recovery Task Force (WBRTF) through the Recovery Team Leader.

Campaign Plan
The Campaign Plan is the guiding document for the RMWB 2016 Wildfire Recovery Plan. It is a high-level, one-page guide to recovery that provides an easily digestible framework for an extremely complex challenge. It asks the question “How does the RMWB recover from the 2016 Wildfire?”
