Last Updated Dec 1, 2016 at 4:30 pm MDT

This year’s Corporate Challenge helped the Wood Buffalo Food Bank to meet their ambitious goal of raising $350,000 to help those most in need in our community.

Syncrude kicked off the challenge by donating $200,000, more than doubling last year’s donation and challenging every other major corporation in our community to follow suit.

Some of the companies that accepted the challenge were:

  • Team Bibeau sponsored $590
  • Cataclysm Productions sponsored $300
  • Suncor sponsored $25,000
  • Imperial Oil Sponsored $30,000
  • Don Scott sponsored $2000
  • Site Energy sponsored $10,000
  • Horizon Oil Sands pledges $25,000
  • Acden sponsored $10,000, their two partners sponsored another $10,000 each
  • Servus Credit Union sponsored $2500
  • Marty Giles NorthStar Ford Lincoln SVT sponsored $6000
  • Vistar Homes pledged $1000
  • John & Leslie Wilson pledged $10,000
  • Caterpillar Foundation sponsored $50,000

In addition to the Corporate Challenge the Syncrude Food Drive is December 2-4th, where they are hoping to raise an additional $75,000 and 75,000 lbs of food. The money and food raised this year will help to meet a 94 per cent increase in need in our community in the wake of the wildfire and the economic downturn that is expected to continue as the community works to rebuild and recover.

Volunteers are still needed to man the food trucks at grocery stores across the community, at Walmart, at the Anzac Grocery Store and at the Wood Buffalo Food Bank Warehouse. You can still sign up to volunteer.

In the last fiscal year the Food Bank’s programs fed 17,027 people in our community.

The Corporate Challenge continues until 7 p.m. Watch the Country 93.3 Facebook Page and the Wood Buffalo Food Bank Twitter Page for the latest donations and totals with a final update on the grand total expected at 7:10.
