The Fort McMurray AA Bantam Barons did what was expected of them on Saturday evening when they welcomed the Peace River Sabres to the Frank Lacroix Arena in continuing action in the Northern Alberta Hockey League.

Max McCoy came into the game tied in first with 27 points so far this season and lit up the scoreboard in game one.

McCoy recorded a hat-trick and added two assists for a total of five points in what was a dominating performance from the Barons in the 8-0 win.

Dylan Remillard also chipped in two goals for the Barons while Gabe Gratton was nothing short of a brick wall for the Barons in recording a 22 save shutout.

In game two, Max McCoy added another three points for the Barons, but the now (3-12-2) Peace River Sabres jumped out to a 4-2 lead after two periods of play and despite the Barons four goals in the third period, the Sabres held on for a narrow 7-6 win to split the weekend series.

With his eight points over the weekend, Max McCoy now leads the league with 35 points through just 16 games and will look to stay red-hot this weekend when the Bantam AA Barons travel to Whitecourt for a two-game set.

The Fort McMurray AA Midget Barons peppered Kyler Breland on Saturday evening in Leduc, but Breland showed up to the task on each and every shot as the Roughnecks got past the Barons 2-0 on home ice. With the loss, the Barons (2-10-5) remained in last place in the Bouchier Division.

The AA Midget Barons then hit the road after the game as they got set to take on the Camrose Vikings on Saturday morning.

For the second night in a row, the Barons struggled offensively with their only marker coming just over five minutes into the second period when Brayden Pruden beat Vikings goalie Zach Willms.

On the other side of the scoreboard, the Vikings scored six times on Ethan Paulin-Hatch. The Barons went on to lose the game 6-1 and dropped to (2-11-5) in the process.

The Midget AA Barons will look to reverse what happened this weekend when they host the also struggling Lakeland Panthers (3-11-0) this weekend at the Frank Lacroix Arena.
