Alberta government house leader denounces anti-Notley 'lock her up' rally

Alberta’s government house leader says a rally that called for Premier Rachel Notley to be jailed is a disturbing sign of Trump-style politics coming to Canada.

Brian Mason says the “lock her up” chants directed toward Notley were disgusting.

He says Alberta’s Opposition Wildrose party and its leader, Brian Jean, need to disavow what Mason calls “hate politics.”

Jean was one of the speakers at the weekend rally, which was held to demonstrate against Alberta’s looming carbon tax.

Federal Conservative leadership candidate Chris Alexander mentioned Notley during the rally and was interrupted by chants of “lock her up.”

It echoed refrains heard at many Donald Trump campaign rallies when the president-elect accused opponent Hillary Clinton of destroying email evidence in a congressional investigation.
