In what was a very successful Minor Hockey Week at rinks across our community, it was also a busy weekend for the AA Barons on the ice.

Peewee AA

Heading into this past weekend’s action, the Peewee AA Barons have had their fair share of ups and downs this season, this weekend was an up.

The Barons played host to the Grande Prairie Boston Pizza Knights and got three of a possible four points on home ice.

In game one, the Barons who were fuelled by four-second period goals and a hat-trick from Carter Breen beat the Knights 7-3.

Game two was another success for the Barons through the first two periods. After 40 minutes, the Barons led 3-1.

The third period was a different story, as the Knights lit up the scoreboard with three third period goals to the Barons one in salvaging a 4-4 tie.

With the win and tie, the Barons moved into fifth place in the Black Division, and sit three points clear of the Boston Pizza Knights.

The Peewee Barons will next take the ice on February 4 and 5 against Peace River.

Bantam AA

It was one of the few weekends this season in which the Bantam AA Barons didn’t get at least three points between their two games.

The Barons hit the road for a pair of games that saw them begin against the MLAC United Cycle.

The United Cycle were no match for the Barons who scored early and often en-route to an 11-1 win in game one.

In game two, it was a battle of heavyweights as the Barons (17-7-0) took on the (19-3-0) St. Albert Bears.

A strong second period in which the Bears scored two goals propelled St. Albert to a 4-2 win in front of their home crowd.

The Bears remain atop the Red Division all-be-it by two points over the St. Albert Elite Sportswear Blues.

With two points over the weekend, the Bantam Barons remain comfortably on top of the Black Division being five points clear of GPAC Coyote North Ltd Storm.

The Bantam AA Barons will get an off week this week before welcoming Camrose on February 4 and 5 to the Frank Lacroix Arena.
