Travis Vader to appeal conviction and life sentence

EDMONTON – The lawyer for a man sentenced to life for killing an Alberta couple says his client will appeal both his conviction and his sentence.

Brian Beresh says Travis Vader will continue to fight to clear his name and he expects to file a formal appeal later this week.

Vader was found guilty of manslaughter last fall in the deaths of Edmonton-area couple Lyle and Marie McCann, who were both in their 70s.

They disappeared while they were on a camping trip in July 2010 and their bodies have never been found.

The McCanns’ son, Bret, says the sentence was a huge relief.

He says his family is thrilled to know that Vader will spend the prime years of his life in prison and the public will be protected from him.
