A local historian has passed away at the age of 52 from a heart attack.

Norm Boucher, who grew up in Fort McMurray was known most for starting the “Fort McMurray and Area Historic Photos” Facebook page.

“It was a big hit, he had a lot of followers before the fire, but since the fire, it has gotten even bigger,” said Rose Beaton, who is the sister of Mr. Boucher. “Everyone wanted to see what Fort McMurray looked like before the fire, and now after.”

Norm started the page nearly two years ago, and like Ms. Beaton mentioned, it has become a huge hit.

“I will talk to the other administrators of the group and hopefully we can continue what Norman started.” Said Beaton on if the group will continue.

Before Boucher passed away, an application was sent to the RMWB to change the name of one of the streets near the Syne, to recognize and commemorate the work his family has done for the area.

Norm Boucher’s celebration of life has been scheduled and will begin with the WAKE on February 20, at 12:00 p.m. and will go until February 22, at 11:00 a.m.

Both the wake and service will be held at the Fort McKay Elders Center with the service being on February 22, at 11:00 a.m.
