The RMWB will have a new Fire Chief starting on February 27th.

Jody Butz has been an employee with the Regional Emergency Services (RES) since 2001 and brings a wealth of experience to the job.

Darby Allen who is retiring at the end of February says the appointment of Butz demonstrates the excellence of employees within the Fire Department.

“It’s been a pleasure to work closely with Jody, who played a key leadership role in the Regional Emergency Operations Centre during last year’s wildfire,” said Allen. “Jody’s experience in Wood Buffalo, as well as in rural and volunteer firefighting, is an asset for our Fire Department. I’m confident that I will be leaving our Fire Department in good hands.”

Interim Chief Administrative Officer Annette Antoniak says The Municipality is thrilled to welcome someone with Butz’s experience, skills and knowledge.

“Jody knows our region well and brings exceptional leadership and professionalism to the position,” said  Antoniak. “I would like to thank outgoing Fire Chief Darby Allen for his service with the Municipality. We wish him all the best in the future.”

Butz has held a number of positions within RES including experience in Regional Emergency Operations Centre activations, working during the 2016 Fort McMurray Wildland Fire, 2013 Fort McMurray flood, and other events.

He has also worked as an EMT Program Coordinator/Instructor at Keyano College.
