Triple murderer Garland in hospital after another jailhouse attack

For the second time since he was sentenced for murdering a little Calgary boy and his grandparents, Douglas Garland has reportedly been badly beaten up by fellow inmates.

Garland was reportedly attacked and left unconscious at Edmonton Institution Monday night and the 57-year-old remains in hospital.

Garland was only recently transferred to the maximum security prison in Edmonton from the Calgary Remand Centre, where he was also assaulted by inmates. Four of them have since been charged.

The first attack happened on the same day he was sentenced to life with no chance of parole for 75 years for murdering Alvin and Kathy Liknes and five-year-old Nathan O’Brien.

One of Garland’s lawyers expressed deep concern about the attacks and said Garland is a security risk, which means extra steps must be taken to keep him safe.
