Benefits of licensing your pet

All cats and dogs are required to be registered within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB).

Every April, pet licences needed to be renewed.

“If we have an accurate pet population we are able to identify the needs of our region and have the according services to benefit everyone,” said Public Education Officer with Bylaw Services, Natalie Abril.

All the proceeds from licencing pets help fund animal services in the RMWB such as determining how many dog parks the city should have and maintaining those off leash dog parks.

The proceeds also help fund the city’s animal care facility that houses all the animals brought in by animal control.

If your pet is licensed and happens to get picked up by animal control, not only will they be returned to you faster but you won’t have to pay the heafty impound fee.
