The president of the Alberta Progressive Conservative party has resigned.

Katherine O’Neill’s resignation was announced Friday by new party Leader Jason Kenney on social media.

Kenney won the PC leadership on March 18 and hopes to form a new united conservative party with the Wildrose.

O’Neill says she is stepping down because she needs a break after two years of hard work and wants more time with her family.

She says she is on good terms with Kenney and is proud of helping to rebuild the PCs after the party’s 2015 election loss.

Kenney thanks O’Neill for her service to the party and says he will work with the party executive in choosing her successor.
