Regional Emergency Services (RES) crews are continuing burn abatement work throughout the region as part of their annual efforts to reduce the risk of wildfire in the region.

These controlled burns are conducted by trained RES staff every spring to burn the dead and dry fuels that accumulate throughout the winter months.

Controlled burns improve and promote the growth of new vegetation while safely and effectively managing the wildfire hazard.

Fire and smoke will be visible during the controlled burns and this may cause concern or unexpected emotional triggers for some residents.

This is a normal reaction and there are resources available on the RMWB website.

If you live in an area near where controlled burns are taking place, keep your windows and doors closed.

Residents are reminded to avoid the areas where RES is conducting controlled burns to allow crews to safely conduct their work.

Never attempt a controlled burn on your own. This work can only be done by trained professionals.
