The Municipality could be changing some speed limits in the community.

On April 18, 2017 the Transportation and Planning Committee (TPC) heard a presentation from the Government of Alberta (GOA) reviewing the multiple speed limits currently on Highway 63.

The GOA is suggesting a consistent speed north and southbound of 70 km/h from the Hwy 69 intersection to the bridge.

There would be two sections of Hwy 63 that would see changes. The first section would see the 70 km/h speed limit extended south from Mackenzie Boulevard to include the Hwy 69 intersection after the signal lights are put in.

Wing Choy, infrastructure/ operations manager with the GOA said that the traffic lights at the Hwy 69 intersection were supposed to be installed last year but were delayed due to the wildfire.

The second section to see a change would be Hardin Street to the bridge, in both directions. The GOA is recommending a 10 km/h increase, from the current 60 km/h to 70 km/h.

The current 80 km/h speed limit from Thickwood Boulevard to north of Parsons Creek Interchange north and south would remain the same.

There is no determined timeline for these changes, if the RMWB was looking to move forward they would have to get approval from the Minister of Transportation.
