Gorgeous weather, fun times and great food were all highlights of the Keyano College Foundation Golf Classic that was held on Saturday, June 3 at the Fort McMurray Golf Club.

The tournament which first launched in 1990, raised $120,000 in support of Keyano students, educational programs, scholarships, and campus development.

In 1990, the event took place at Miskanaw Golf Course with approximately 40 players taking part in raising $2500.

Over 35 sponsors, 150 golfers and dozens of volunteers took part in this year’s event to make it an extreme success.

“Every year, our donors and sponsors amaze us with their leadership, generosity and dedication to this great region and every single donation or sponsorship makes an impact in the community,” Said Jason Demers, Vice President of External Relations and Advancement. “This tournament is an important way of raising money, but equally important is how it brings the College and our friends and community partners together.

Back by popular demand to add excitement to the event was the Phoenix Heliflight’s SkyDrop, which saw golf balls dropped on a green by a helicopter. The ball that landed closest to the pin won its owner $1000.

To finish off the tournament, Keyano College Foundations Gala’s presenting sponsor Birch Mountain Enterprises was on hand to announce the special guest entertainment for this year’s Gala.

General Manager Ivan Boucher announced that the iconic Canadian group, the Barenaked Ladies will perform at the Gala.
