Notley okay with courts hearing Trans Mountain expansion concerns

Premier Rachel Notley says the fight for the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion will continue through the summer.

The project has been attacked by the NDP and Green Party in B.C., which combined hold the balance of power in the B.C. legislature.

Speaking at a spring legislative wrap-up news conference, Notley said she’d be okay with the project going before the courts.

“Frankly, I think that might be the best place to do it, I think that that’s a reasonable forum within which to work through these issues around what is in the national interest and what is an appropriate accommodation of local concerns,” she said.

Pipeline approvals fall under federal jurisdiction, and the Trans Mountain already has Ottawa’s blessing, following approval from the National Energy Board.
