The Fort McMurray Giants jumped out to an early lead, but couldn’t hold it as they dropped the series finale on Sunday afternoon against the Okotoks Dawgs 5-3 at Shell Place.

The Giants (1-7) started the bottom of the first scoring one run, they loaded the bases with just one out as power hitter Josh Snider stepped up to the plate.

Snider swung at a first pitch, grounded it to second base, which the Dawgs (6-2) turned into an inning-ending double play.

The Giants scored one more run each in the bottom of the third and fourth to take a 3-0 lead.

After escaping many jams throughout the first four, the Dawgs bounced back in the top of the fifth scoring three runs to tie up the game at 3.

Both the Giants and Dawgs pitchers shut down opposing hitters until the top of the eighth when the Dawgs added two more runs to take a 5-3 lead, both runs were charged to California native, Cy Vojak.

The two runs scored by the Dawgs in the eighth, were the final runs scored in the ballgame as the Dawgs stole another game from the Giants.

With the loss, the Giants now sit at the bottom of the Western Division, but find themselves just one game back of the Medicine Hat Mavericks for the final playoff spot early in the season.

The Dawgs are tied for second in the Western Division with Edmonton.

The Giants hit the field on Tuesday night as they head to Edmonton to take on the Prospects. They will start a home-stand at Shell Place on Friday evening as they welcome the Lethbridge Bulls for a four games.
